Six Barangays in Sta. Ana, Manila Trained in Waste Segregation

On June 17, approximately twenty-two participants from six barangays in Sta. Ana, Manila were trained in waste segregation.  First, the group learned about how the Ecological Solid Waste Management Program, Republic Act 9003, and the Supreme Court’s recent order for strict implementation of this law under penalty of contempt affect them and their roles within the Barangay.  Secondly, the participants engaged in a hands-on exercise of segregating unsorted wastes.  After much discussion, the participants developed a customized Barangay-level waste segregation system, conducted hands-on waste segregation exercises and were encouraged to identify a pilot area to implement a practical waste segregation scheme prepared during the training.
